Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has reversed his retirement and will rejoin the German national team at the request of coach Julian Nagelsmann. The 34-year-old last played for Germany during Euro 2020 but is ready to contribute ahead of the home Euro 2024 tournament.
“I will play for Germany again from March,” Kroos announced on Instagram. “I was asked by the national team coach, I’m keen to do it, and I believe there’s more the team can achieve at the Euros.”
Kroos elaborated on his decision, explaining that Nagelsmann’s enthusiasm and the opportunity to play a major tournament in Germany were key factors. However, he emphasized that he doesn’t consider himself a “savior” for the team and acknowledges improvements are needed across the board.
Germany faces France and the Netherlands in upcoming friendlies, preparing for a Euro 2024 group stage that includes Scotland, Hungary, and Switzerland.
